Connect CaptableAI to Claude Desktop

The Claude app for macOS and Windows. Once it's connected, ask about your equity in plain language, upload documents, model a round and export the result, all from the same chat.

Short answer

Claude Desktop uses the connectors on your Claude account. If you have already added CaptableAI on Claude.ai, it is there. Otherwise open Customize → Connectors, add a custom connector with https://mcp.captable.ai/mcp and sign in. No config file is needed.

What you need

  • ✓Claude Desktop on macOS or Windows, signed in to your Claude account.
  • ✓A CaptableAI company where you are an owner or admin.

Set it up

1

Check whether it's already there

Connectors sync with your Claude account. Open Customize → Connectors in the app. If CaptableAI is listed and connected, skip to step 4.

2

Add a custom connector

Click +, choose Add custom connector, name it CaptableAI and paste the server URL.

Server URL
https://mcp.captable.ai/mcp
3

Sign in with OAuth

Click Connect. Your browser opens once for sign-in, then the app reuses the session.

4

Drag your documents in

The desktop app is the easiest place to upload in bulk. Drop PDFs, DOCX, XLSX or images into the conversation and ask Claude to add them to your cap table. Files up to 25 MB go through the connector; use the CLI for files up to 50 MB.

Check it worked

Start a new chat and ask “Which CaptableAI tools can you use?” If CaptableAI isn't mentioned, click + → Connectors and switch it on.

First things to ask

“Upload these five SAFEs, wait until they're classified, then show me post-money dilution.”
“Check these board consents against the option grants already on my cap table.”
“Export my cap table to Excel.”

Troubleshooting

Do I need to edit claude_desktop_config.json?

No. That file is for local servers that run on your own machine. CaptableAI is a remote server, so the connector settings are all you need.

Is the connection made from my computer?

No. Even in the desktop app, custom connectors are reached from Anthropic's cloud, so your local network setup doesn't affect it.

Which files can I upload, and how large?

PDF, DOCX, XLSX, DOC and common image formats. Up to 25 MB per file through the connector, and up to 50 MB with the CaptableAI CLI.

Then: upload your documents

CaptableAI builds your cap table by reading your legal documents. These seven habits keep it fast and accurate. Share them with Claude Desktop.

01 Upload everything first +

Add all of your cap table documents up front, in one batch where possible: incorporation documents, SAFEs, stock and option agreements, board consents. PDF, DOCX, XLSX, DOC and images are supported.

02 Wait for classification +

Each document is read and classified, so the system knows its type and effective date. Don't trigger extraction until every document shows CLASSIFIED.

03 Check the classification dates +

The effective date decides processing order. If one looks wrong, fix it before extraction so the cap table is built in the right sequence.

04 Trigger extraction once +

Extraction doesn't start automatically for agent uploads. Trigger it a single time after everything is classified; the whole queue is picked up.

05 Let the queue run +

Documents are extracted one at a time, earliest first, so later events build on earlier ones. Expect a few minutes per document and don't re-trigger.

06 Validation runs on its own +

When the last document finishes, a company-wide validator checks every extracted object and repairs cross-document issues. There's nothing to trigger.

07 Review, then commit +

When every document reaches PROCESSED, review the drafts and commit. The first commit activates your cap table.
