Connect CaptableAI to Claude

Claude.ai on the web, plus the Claude apps on desktop and mobile. Once it's connected, ask about your equity in plain language, upload documents, model a round and export the result, all from the same chat.

Short answer

In Claude.ai, open Customize → Connectors, click +, choose Add custom connector and paste https://mcp.captable.ai/mcp. Sign in to CaptableAI when the browser opens. The connector belongs to your Claude account, so it also works in Claude Desktop and the mobile apps.

What you need

  • ✓A Claude account on any plan. Free accounts can add one custom connector.
  • ✓A CaptableAI company where you are an owner or admin.
  • ✓On Team or Enterprise, an owner who can add connectors for the organization.

Set it up

1

Open Customize → Connectors

In Claude.ai, open the menu and go to Customize, then Connectors. Some older builds still show this under Settings → Connectors.

2

Add a custom connector

Click + (or Add), choose Add custom connector, name it CaptableAI and paste the server URL. Leave Advanced settings empty: CaptableAI does not need a client ID or secret.

Server URL
https://mcp.captable.ai/mcp
3

Sign in to CaptableAI

Click Connect. A browser window opens; sign in with your CaptableAI account and approve access. Claude keeps the session from then on.

4

Switch it on in a chat

In a new conversation, click + → Connectors and check CaptableAI is on. Because connectors belong to your account, it appears in Claude Desktop and the mobile apps without any extra setup.

Check it worked

Ask Claude “Which CaptableAI tools can you use?” It should list tools for reading, uploading, modelling and exporting. If it answers from general knowledge instead, the connector is switched off for that chat.

First things to ask

“Summarise my cap table: share classes, fully diluted ownership, and everyone above 5%.”
“What happens to my ownership if we raise $4M at a $20M pre-money with a 12% pool?”
“List every SAFE with its cap, discount and the document it came from.”

Troubleshooting

Does the CaptableAI connector work on the free Claude plan?

Yes. Free accounts can add one custom connector, which is enough for CaptableAI. Paid plans can add more.

I'm on Claude Team or Enterprise and can't see Add custom connector.

Only an owner can add it. The owner opens Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web and pastes the URL. Each member then opens Customize → Connectors, finds CaptableAI and clicks Connect to sign in with their own account.

Claude says it can't reach the server. What should I check?

Claude connects from Anthropic's cloud, not from your computer, so your VPN or office firewall doesn't matter. Check the URL ends in /mcp with no trailing space, then remove the connector and add it again.

What can Claude see once it's connected?

Only companies where your CaptableAI account is an owner or admin, and only through the tools the server exposes. You can disconnect at any time from Customize → Connectors.

Then: upload your documents

CaptableAI builds your cap table by reading your legal documents. These seven habits keep it fast and accurate. Share them with Claude.

01 Upload everything first +

Add all of your cap table documents up front, in one batch where possible: incorporation documents, SAFEs, stock and option agreements, board consents. PDF, DOCX, XLSX, DOC and images are supported.

02 Wait for classification +

Each document is read and classified, so the system knows its type and effective date. Don't trigger extraction until every document shows CLASSIFIED.

03 Check the classification dates +

The effective date decides processing order. If one looks wrong, fix it before extraction so the cap table is built in the right sequence.

04 Trigger extraction once +

Extraction doesn't start automatically for agent uploads. Trigger it a single time after everything is classified; the whole queue is picked up.

05 Let the queue run +

Documents are extracted one at a time, earliest first, so later events build on earlier ones. Expect a few minutes per document and don't re-trigger.

06 Validation runs on its own +

When the last document finishes, a company-wide validator checks every extracted object and repairs cross-document issues. There's nothing to trigger.

07 Review, then commit +

When every document reaches PROCESSED, review the drafts and commit. The first commit activates your cap table.
