Connect CaptableAI to Gemini

The Gemini app, and Gemini CLI for developers. Once it's connected, ask about your equity in plain language, upload documents, model a round and export the result, all from the same chat.

Short answer

On gemini.google.com, open Settings → Connected Apps, choose Add a custom app and paste https://mcp.captable.ai/mcp. Approve the sign-in and CaptableAI works on web and mobile. In Gemini CLI, add the same URL with gemini mcp add.

What you need

✓A personal Google account. Google currently requires you to be 18 or over and in the US, with Keep Activity turned on.
✓A CaptableAI company where you are an owner or admin.
✓For the CLI route: Gemini CLI installed.

Set it up

Open Connected Apps

On a computer, go to gemini.google.com, click Settings, then Connected Apps. If it isn't there, look under Personal Intelligence → Connected Apps. Custom apps can only be added on the web.

Add a custom app

Under Custom apps, click Add a custom app, paste the server URL and click Next.

Prefer the terminal? Use Gemini CLI

Add the server with one command, then run /mcp auth captable-ai inside Gemini to sign in. Or add the entry to ~/.gemini/settings.json by hand.

Ask Gemini “What can CaptableAI do for me?” In the CLI, run /mcp and check captable-ai shows as connected.

First things to ask

“List every convertible outstanding with its cap, discount and maturity date.”

“How much of the option pool is still unallocated?”

“Explain the difference between our two preferred share classes in plain English.”

Troubleshooting

Why don't I see Custom apps in Gemini?

Google limits custom apps to personal accounts held by people 18 or over in the US, with Keep Activity turned on. If any of those don't apply, the option doesn't appear.

I use Gemini through Google Workspace.

Custom apps in the Gemini app are for personal accounts. On Gemini Enterprise, a team admin adds the server under Manage team → Connected apps → Add MCP Server.

Where does Gemini CLI keep my sign-in?

Locally, in ~/.gemini/mcp-oauth-tokens.json. If it expires, run /mcp auth captable-ai again.

Then: upload your documents

CaptableAI builds your cap table by reading your legal documents. These seven habits keep it fast and accurate. Share them with Gemini.

01 Upload everything first +

Add all of your cap table documents up front, in one batch where possible: incorporation documents, SAFEs, stock and option agreements, board consents. PDF, DOCX, XLSX, DOC and images are supported.

02 Wait for classification +

Each document is read and classified, so the system knows its type and effective date. Don't trigger extraction until every document shows CLASSIFIED.

03 Check the classification dates +

The effective date decides processing order. If one looks wrong, fix it before extraction so the cap table is built in the right sequence.

04 Trigger extraction once +

Extraction doesn't start automatically for agent uploads. Trigger it a single time after everything is classified; the whole queue is picked up.

05 Let the queue run +

Documents are extracted one at a time, earliest first, so later events build on earlier ones. Expect a few minutes per document and don't re-trigger.

06 Validation runs on its own +

When the last document finishes, a company-wide validator checks every extracted object and repairs cross-document issues. There's nothing to trigger.

07 Review, then commit +

When every document reaches PROCESSED, review the drafts and commit. The first commit activates your cap table.
